In 1806, Napoleon did a blockade on England, preventing it to have access to the continental resources and especially to wood, which was strongly needed for the construction of its armada. And so the crown turned on its colonies of Upper and Lower Canada to get the wood they needed. Forest industry then became a central part of the economic activities in Canada. If, at the time, raftsmen drifted down rivers on their sawlogs to bring them at the docks or factories after winter, everything will change with the development of the automobile industry: indeed, nowadays, we do not see any rafstman perched on its sawlogs, because they are now being carried by trucks.

Toys on wheels exist since the dawn of History. We can even see pictures of two-wheeled cars on some Ancient Greek potteries, and we can be sure that this tradition made it until today!

En 1806, Napoléon effectue un blocus sur l’Angleterre, empêchant cette dernière d’avoir accès aux ressources du continent, notamment le bois qui est essentiel pour la construction de ses navires de guerre. La couronne anglaise se tourne alors vers sa colonie du Haut et du Bas-Canada et le commerce du bois devient alors une priorité. Si, à l’époque, les draveurs descendaient les rivières avec leurs billots pour les rendre à destination une fois l’hiver terminé, tout cela va changer avec le développement du secteur automobile : en effet, de nos jours, nous ne voyons plus de draveurs perchés sur leurs billots de bois, car le transport se fait par camions transportant des dizaines d’arbres avec eux.

Les jouets sur roues existent depuis des temps immémoriaux. Sur certains vases grecs antiques, l’on retrouve même des images de jouets de charrette à deux roues, et il ne faut pas douter que la tradition s’est poursuivie jusqu’à nous!
